Mango Tree FAQ
How big does the tree grow?

Mango trees are typically between 10–15 ft tall with some varieties reaching 20 ft. With pruning they can be managed between 8–10 ft.

Dwarf trees have slower and wider growth habits, easily maintained below 10 ft tall.

Are they good to eat green?

Some mangoes are fully ripe and sweet when green, but many will be too firm to eat unless pickled.

How do I plant the tree?

Our complete mango tree care guide covers all your planting and site prep needs and is included FREE with every mango tree.

When will my tree be ready for pickup?

Our larger grafted mango trees will be ready for pickup by the last 2 weeks of November in Mililani, HI.

Do I have to reserve or pre-order online?

No, but reserving your tree guarantees it will be available for pickup when you need it. We do our best to make sure the right trees are easy to get; as a result we sell out of trees consistently each season.

Can I pay cash in person?

Yes, of course! State GE tax applies to all orders, even cash. You can schedule pickup and choose from trees that are still available—we aren’t able to “hold” trees without paid reservations.

What is the Tree Planting Success Kit?

Add our Tree Planting Success Kit to your cart to give your new mango a head start. It includes essential nutrients, slow-release fertilizer, and root stimulator formulated to establish healthy roots quickly—leading to faster growth and earlier fruit development.

What varieties do you offer?

We focus on proven favorites every season: Cotton Candy, Rapoza, Sugarloaf, Mapulehu, Keitt, and Haden. Read detailed descriptions, tasting notes, ripening times, and growing tips for each at mangos.sweettreeshawaii.com.

Can’t find your dream variety? We can custom graft it for you—typical wait is 9 months.

Why order a grafted tree?

Seed-grown trees can take 5–8 years to fruit and may not match the parent variety. Grafting gives you assurance that you get the same genetics and fruit from the parent tree. Our grafted trees may fruit in 1–3 years—often larger trees will fruit in the first year with proper care.

What size trees do you sell?

We specialize in larger grafted trees (3–5 gallon pots, 3–5 ft tall at pickup) ready for immediate planting and quicker fruit production. Smaller starter sizes may be available seasonally—check our site or reserve list for current stock.

Do you ship trees?

Not yet, we offer local pickup in Mililani, HI, to ensure trees arrive healthy and stress-free. However, inter-island shipping can be arranged for larger orders with required agricultural processing, inspection, and applicable shipping fees. Contact us to discuss bulk or neighbor island delivery options!

What if my tree doesn’t thrive?

Every tree comes with our 30-day health guarantee—we guarantee that if you follow the exact steps in our care guide, your tree will thrive. Follow the included care guide for best results!

What color is this mango?

Trick question! Mango coloration has two components: the variety and the amount of sun each fruit gets. Often a mango will change from green to a nice yellow, orange, red, or remain green and get a blush of reds, oranges, yellows, or pink depending on the variety.

Thank you!

We appreciate your support and we are confident you'll love your new tree!
