Why Grafted

Seed-Grown Takes 7 Years.
Grafted Fruits in 1–2.

A seed-grown mango is a gamble — the fruit may look nothing like the parent tree, and you'll wait nearly a decade to find out. Grafted trees are clones of known, proven varieties. You know exactly what you're getting, and you get it fast.

All our trees are grown on Oahu in Hawaii conditions — not shipped in from the mainland. They're already acclimated and ready to thrive in your yard.

⏱️

Time to first fruit: 1–2 years from planting — versus 5–7 for a seed-grown tree.

True to variety: The fruit matches the parent tree exactly. No surprises at harvest.

🌴

Grown on Oahu: Acclimated to Hawaii rainfall, humidity, and soil. Not mainland stock.

About Our Mango Trees

With regular maintenance pruning — which we cover in our care guides — you can easily keep a mango tree at 8–15 feet. Dwarf varieties with some pruning stay between 8-10 feet. A manageable, productive tree is the goal. Left unpruned, many mango varieties can grow 30–40 feet tall. We recommend annual canopy management to keep fruit reachable and harvesting easy.

Yes — green mango is a staple in Hawaiian and Southeast Asian cooking. Firm, unripe mango has a tart, crunchy bite and is used in salads, slaws, pickles, and relishes. Fully ripe mangos are sweet and soft, ideal for eating fresh or blending into smoothies and desserts. You get both options from the same tree.

Mango trees thrive in full sun with well-draining soil. Choose a spot that gets at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight and isn't prone to waterlogging. Dig a hole 3 feet+ wide and deep, with a square hole plus filling the hole with at least 30% black cinders in the soil and compost mix regardless of your planting method to help with drainage.  Water deeply at planting, then reduce watering as the tree establishes. Avoid planting near structures, as the canopy and roots spread over time.

Every tree comes with care instructions, and our team is available to answer planting questions after pickup.

Grafted mango trees take 6–9 months to grow, graft, and mature to a healthy transplantable size. We'll send you an email notification as soon as your tree is ready with pickup instructions. Pickup is in Mililani, Oahu. We'll work with you to find a time that fits your schedule.

Payment secures your spot and starts the grafting process. We graft your tree to order — no pre-grafted inventory sitting on a shelf. Your payment covers the rootstock, scion wood, labor, and growing time.

Payment is non-refundable once grafting has begun, as the tree is being grown specifically for you. We'll notify you when your tree is ready for pickup in Mililani.

Pre-orders are paid in full online through Stripe at the time of reservation — we accept all major credit and debit cards. If you have questions about payment, give us a call at (808) 301-1808.

The Mango Success Kit is an optional add-on available at pickup. It includes a starter fertilizer formulated for young tropical fruiting trees to boost root establishment. It's not required — your tree will grow without it — but it does give the tree the best possible start in a new location.

It depends on your taste and your yard. Here's a quick guide:

Cotton Candy Rapoza — Ultra-sweet, low-fiber, one of the most requested varieties on Oahu. Better in moderately wet areas. Great for eating fresh. Season: June–August.

E4 Sugarloaf — Pale yellow flesh, coconut-honey flavor when ripe, sweet and complex. A true connoisseur's mango. Season: July–September.

Mapulehu — Classic Hawaiian variety, large fruit, rich flavor, deep orange flesh. Great producer. Best for dry climates. Season: July–August.

A seed-grown mango tree can take 5–8 years to produce fruit — and the fruit quality is unpredictable, because mango seeds don't grow true to type. You might get a great tree, or you might get something tough and fibrous.

A grafted tree produces fruit in 1–3 years and is guaranteed to be the exact variety you chose — same flavor, same season, same characteristics as the mother tree. Every tree we sell is grafted. It's simply the smarter choice for anyone serious about growing quality mangos.

All trees are sold in 3–2 gallon containers at 2–3 feet tall at time of pickup. This is the ideal size for transplanting — established enough to handle the transition, young enough to root aggressively in its new location. Trees at this size often produce their first fruit within 1–3 seasons after planting in a good spot.

No — all trees are pickup only in Mililani, Oahu. We don't ship live trees. Hawaii's agricultural regulations make inter-island shipping complex, and shipping is hard on young grafted trees. In-person pickup also gives us the chance to walk you through care instructions and answer any last questions before you take your tree home.

It depends on the variety and sun exposure. Some mangos — like Haden — develop a beautiful red blush when ripe and in full sun. Others, like Keitt and Nam Doc Mai, stay green even when fully ripe. Color is not a reliable indicator of ripeness - but sunlight expresses the natural blush. The best way to check: gently squeeze the fruit. A ripe mango gives slightly to pressure, like a ripe avocado. You can also smell the stem end — a sweet, fruity fragrance means it's ready.
